ABB at Thai-Swedish collaboration event for innovative manufacturing

2018-01-23 - Exclusive round table held to elevate Thailand to a new level of industrial development

ABB recently participated in an exclusive roundtable focusing on innovative manufacturing in Thailand, organized by the Embassy of Sweden and Business Sweden (The Swedish Trade and Invest Council) in Bangkok at the Anantara Siam Bangkok in Rajdamri.

H.E. Mr. Staffan Herrstrom, Ambassador of Sweden to Thailand, led a roundtable discussion with experts from Swedish manufacturing companies to share best practice technologies from Sweden and enable knowledge sharing between Thai and Swedish organizations. The event focused on the next generation of advanced manufacturing and the migration to Industry 4.0 in Thailand in two strategic sectors; Automotive and Food & Beverage.

Over the last three decades, Thailand has become a leader in the global automotive and electronics and electrical appliance industries, the two industry sectors that drive global robotics and automation growth. As the world’s second-largest global producer and exporter of hard-disk drives and the world’s sixth-largest commercial vehicle producer, Thailand has continuously adopted new technologies. To support the transformation of its economy under the Thailand 4.0 model, the government has underlined robotics and automation as two of the targeted industries for technological investment.

The morning session of the event featured delegates from Thailand’s manufacturing industry – The Federation of Thai Industry, Eastern Economic Corridor, Office of Industrial Economics, Thailand Board of Investment, National Science and the Technology Development Agency – while the afternoon session comprised key companies from the automotive and food & beverage manufacturing sectors.

Lumboon Simakajornboon, Local Business Unit Manager for ABB Robotics, informed participants about ABB’s comprehensive range of solutions for automotive as well as F&B manufacturers, including solutions that help improve productivity, product quality and worker health & safety.

As a pioneering technology leader, ABB is collaborating with Thai academic institutions to help upskill the workforce in automation and advanced manufacturing for the next wave of innovation in industry. Automation is revolutionizing the face of manufacturing and ABB, through such industry and trade outreach events, will continue to share its knowledge and expertise and help companies become more cost competitive while meeting the highest standards of productivity and quality.
