YuMi, creating an automated future

2016-12-16 - Robotic technology and automation significantly play a vital role in Thailand’s growth and development in the near future. Especially, Thailand’s robotics industry is on an upward trend as BOI offers tax and non-tax incentives for eligible activities as well as encourage research & development and advanced engineering design involvement to improve production efficiency. With Thailand 4.0, there will surely be an increase in interests for this field.

In parallel, enhancing and developing the students who are interested in robotic technology which meet both industrial and service’s requirement are in need. In this regard, ABB in Thailand – Discrete Automation and Motion Division, signed the memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thonburi. FIBO has specialized education program that support the robotics industry where offers Undergraduate and Graduate programs in Robotics and Automation Engineering.

Under the agreement, ABB will provide 1 unit of ABB’s new dual-armed industrial robot -YuMi- the world’s first truly collaborative robot, together with control software for further study and research that will last for 1 year. ABB will support the Industrial Service Unit of FIBO to become fully connected with the manufacturing sector, robotic technology and automation including appropriate training of its technology and application.

In collaboration with FIBO who plays key role in robotics education and technology development that support the robotics industry, Thai researchers and engineers will learn the necessary skills and technical knowhow while the industrial sector could found the real world applications where YuMi’s control software, precision and innovative design are key to its operation. ABB is continuously developing technologies to better meet the global changing needs.
